Indian American Legislative day was observed at the historic Capitol Rotunda in Lansing Michigan to celebrate the leadership of Indian Americans in public policy and higher education. Three Indian American educators were honored at the event. Dr. Anil Kumar, Wayne State University Board of Governors, Dr. Virinder Moudgil, President of Lawrence Technological University (LTU) and Dr Satish Udpa, Acting President of Michigan State University were recognized for their contributions.
Dr. Moudgil spoke about his career and passion for education. He dedicated his success to the formative years in India and the opportunities provided by the United States of America. His career highlight at Oakland University was the introduction of a new Medical degree program in partnership with Beaumont Hospital. At LTU he introduced the Global Village Summer program celebrating all religions. He also mentioned about the proud heritage of LTU in helping the automotive industry thrive in the great State of Michigan.
Dr. Anil Kumar expressed his gratitude to Wayne State University for sponsorship him back in 1984. He also met his wife Marjorie at Wayne State University. Dr. Kumar was emphatic in his appreciation for Indian culture particularly with respect to education. Dr. Kumar is expressed his desire to see more young Indian Americans participate in the political process.
Dr. Satish Udpa, commended Representative Padma Kuppa for her success in politics. He stated that Rep. Kuppa is a role model for Indian American children. He said that he forwarded Rep. Kuppa's website to his children. Dr. Upda spoke highly of individuals that touched his life in America.
Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchirst joined the meeting and declared that more Indian Americans should get involved in the political process and assume more elected offices in the coming years. He stated that it would truly help Michigan shine.
Shri Sudhakar Dalela, Consul General of India, Chicago appreciated the Michigan Indian community for its success and expressed hope that India and the United States of America will strengthen their trade relations and explore new opportunities. He recently assumed his role and looks forward to future visits to Michigan.
State Senator Jim Runestad announced the Commemorative Resolution recognizing June 6th 2019 as the Indian American Legislative Day. Several State Representatives and State Senators participated in the event.
State Rep Padma Kuppa took the initiative to organize the event. Every speaker applauded Rep. Kuppa for her hard work and contribution. Former State Senator Sam Singh emceed the event.miindia.com was one of the proud sponsors.
