Historical Event on 7/6/1935

Dalai Lama, the 14th incarnate and religious leader of Tibet, was born. He was born to Tenzin Gyotso (His Holiness the VIVth Dalai Lama) in Taksten Village, Chhija Nangso, Tibet. He was awarded with Nobel Prize for Peace in 1989.

5/11/1919Troops under General Barrett inflicted a sharp reverse today on the invading Afghans at Bagh Springs. The whole of the frontier area was up in arms with tribesmen threatening Landi Khotal and martial law being proclaimed in Peshawar. It was expected however that General Barrett, well equipped with guns and airplanes, would soon control the situation. Reports had been reaching London for some time about the possibility of an Afghan incursion following the murder of the pro-British Emir Habibullah. His third son, Amanullah Khan, who took over the throne, was known to be hostile toward the government of India.

4/22/1983Smt. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, visited ICMR Headquarters and held discussions with senior scientists of ICMR. ICMR revived research on indigenous drugs/traditional medicine with a new, disease-oriented approach and a Scientific Advisory Group on Traditional Medicine Research was constituted in 1983 but actual studies (Multicentric Clinical Trials, Centres for Advanced Research, Central Biostatistical Monitoring Unit etc.) were started in 1984-85.
