8/4/1997Supreme Court declares that the Rashtrapati Bhavan press communique of 23/1/1992 on a proposal to confer the Bharat Ratna 'posthumously' on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose ""should be treated as cancelled"", as the proposal was dropped by the Government in deference to the sentiments expressed by the public and his family members.
7/16/1954French rule ends in Mahe. De facto power was transferred to the people and the Indian flag hoisted.

4/3/1999Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2E), fifth satellite in INSAT-2 series, launched. This has multipurpose communication & meteorological capabilities. This is still in use. Launched by European launch vehicle Ariane, ISRO has leased eleven 36 MHz equivalent units of C-band capacity on board to INTELSAT organisation.
7/28/1872Albert P Sarraut, French Governor General of Indo-China (1911..19)/PM (1933/36), was born.
12/27/1976The Kangla Tongbi war memorial built for 221 members who laid down their lives to repulsed several waves of Japanese attacks. Advance Base Depot is shifted to Jabalpur. The original memorial was erected on 15 April 1946 from local stone and the main epitaph displayed above is of black Naga stone.
11/10/1659Chhatrapati Shivaji killed Afzal Khan near Pratapgad Fort by a clever but undignified move.
