9/10/1872Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji ""Ranji"", Maharaj Jamsaheb of Nawanagar and noted cricketer, was born in village Sarodar near Jamnagar, Kathiawad. He was referred as ""The prince of a little state, but the king of a great game"". He also played for Sussex.
11/19/19971996 Indira Gandhi prize for peace, disarmament and development presented to Medicins Sans Frontieres, a non-government organisation, providing medical aid to the needy across the globe, by President K. R. Narayanan on the 80th birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.

6/7/1984Indian Army troops, sent to Punjab to quell Sikh violence, stormed the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest of Sikh shrines. More than 400 persons were reported killed in the assault at the shrine, including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

1/26/1950The new Indian awards known as Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra, were finally selected in June 1948 and annouced on the first Republic Day. Param Vir Chakra to the Victoria Cross, the Maha Vir Chakra to the Indian Order of Merit and the Vir Chakra is equivalent to the Military Cross. The Ashoka Chakra series, meant for gallantry other than in the face of the enemy, was probably meant to replace the George Cross, Albert Medal and George Medal.
